Last August several US organizations of African descent held a sensitive activity to recall the memory of Marcus Garvey, pioneer of pan-African international movement of the twentieth century. We shared our impressions about the new pan-African vision that in his lifetime, president Hugo Chàvez gave as an example with the creation of geopolitical integration blocks in “Our America” and their integration to Africa, with leaders, including James Early, Esmeralda Brown, Don Rojas, and Ron Daniels of the “Black World Institute” and Estela Vasquez -union leaderess. It is there where the idea of ​​holding a meeting with the president Maduro arose in occasion of his visit to New York City as part of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations. This is how the proposal was interweaving quickly and it would then be submitted to President Maduro for concreting this idea becoming in a “People of African Descent Summit”, where they were summoned leaders who fight against police brutality, racism and other afro agendas.

The afrodescendant decade 2014-2024.

In September 2001, takes place the Third World Conference against Racism in South Africa. Hence, the Durban Action Plan arose and it was assumed as a compromise of combat against racism, xenophobia, homophobia and existing-discrimination in the world. It was also established a working group of Afrodescendant. Finally, under pressure from African social movements, the “Decade of of People of African Descent” was created under three strategic lines: Recognition, Justice and Reparation. Recognition obliges States to move forward on the right to equality and non-discrimination, participation with inclusion in public policies . On the other hand, Justice refers to the creation of laws to end discrimination, inequality, penalty racism in its various forms, to facilitate access to justice, implementing prevention measures and especially addressing in depth the issue of human rights, which unfortunately in the national plan for Venezuela on the Human Rights issues the Ombudsman's did not included the afro matter resulting it into a national disgrace in one of the countries where more progress has been made with the law against discrimination ... Ultimately, we have the issue of reparations, linked to development given that largely more than two hundred million African descent are living below the poverty line and we must move on priority development issues such as health, education, decent housing, sources of employment, empowerment of ancestral cultures and participation in different plans of development in agreement with communities.

Afrodescendants and millennium development goals

Several leaders and women leaders presented ideas in their speeches about the situation of US afro in relation to the increase of racial crimes living in that country “Champion of Justice”. Chronic marginalization, exclusion, poverty, millions of African descent living in the north. But they also related it to that situation with our America as a whole that is not very far from the US reality . They recognized the advances in social inclusive policies that the Bolivarian process was taking from Commandant Hugo Chavez times to now, followed by president Maduro. In his speech, Maduro recognized the African contributions to building our country and the Americas, appealing for peace, a no war call which does not benefit the people; putting the example of Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria recently. He expressed the need for a summit of nations in order to implement the 17 millennium goals for next fifteen years (2015-2030). For this Continental Summit proposal is necessary to emphasize that people of African descent, are numbering about two hundred million in the Americas and the Caribbean, in chronic marginality conditions, displaced by armed conflict (in Colombia), racism and discrimination. All of them are together with indigenous peoples are nearly three hundred million out of sustainable development.The seventeen Millennium Development Goals are:

1. Ending poverty in all its forms everywhere.

2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.

3. Ensure a healthy lifestyle and promote prosperity for all in all ages.

4. Ensure inclusive and equitable and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

6. Ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

7. Ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

8. Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all.

9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.

10. Reduce inequality within and among countries.

11. Make cities and human settlements nclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.

12. Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

13. Take urgent action to combat climate change and its effects.

14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.

15. Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity.

16. Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.

17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.

The president Maduro announced in that act that these objectives will be incorporated into the “Plan of the Homeland, it is now the responsibility of afro organizations not only in Venezuela but throughout our America to cross these objectives with the current socio-political and ecological demands of those afro movements to lead them to the CONTINENTAL SUMMIT OF AFRICAN DESCENTS OF NUESTRA AMERICA 2016.
